It gives us great pleasure to announce our latest new partner site, hidden away in the north-west corner of the North Pennines.

RSPB Geltsdale is a remote and ruggedly beautiful nature reserve, characterised by a diverse landscape of blanket bog, heath, grassland, meadows, woodland and rolling hills rising high above sea level. These habitats support a variety of threatened wildlife. Many birds, such as Golden Plovers, Lapwing, Curlew, Ring Ouzel, Merlin, Black Grouse and Short-eared Owl come to the area to breed. Notably, the reserve is one of a handful of Hen Harrier nesting sites in England.

There are two different directions you can take on the Tramper from the Visitor Centre at RSPB Geltsdale. The first leads you on gravel paths towards and along the south side of Tindale Tarn. This track offers great views over the Tarn, with the opportunity to spot plenty of birdlife enjoying the water (binoculars for use by the Tramper user will be provided in the Tramper). The track takes you behind the farm through a lovely, wooded area before turning back. On the way back, you have the option to visit the hide on the Tarn (if your mobility permits, as the Tramper must be left at the gate 50m from the hide). The other route leads you up the valley from the Visitor Centre. This track follows the stream, with meadows, marshes and views of the newly established woodland on the fellside.

A must-visit for nature enthusiasts and bird watchers alike - with its abundant birdlife and beautiful landscapes, RSPB Geltsdale provides a memorable experience for all who visit.

The Tramper is available at 10am, on Monday, Thursday and Friday, with sessions lasting two and a half hours.
