INTRODUCING DAVID – A KEEN PHOTOGRAPHER WHO FINDS THE TRAMPERS FUN TO RIDE!

It gives us great pleasure to introduce David, who joined Outdoor Mobility back in April 2024.

A former PE teacher, ex-rugby player, basketball player and rower, David has always had a very active and healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, in more recent years, he has suffered multiple medical conditions including back issues and angina, which can make walking longer distances difficult and painful.

David came across the scheme by searching online and describes himself as ‘giddy’ when he saw what Outdoor Mobility has to offer! He couldn’t believe how reasonably priced the scheme was and instantly paid £15 for an Annual Subscription.

David recently visited one of our newer partner sites, the Himalayan Gardens and Sculpture Park in Ripon. He describes his visit as ‘absolutely fabulous’ and an ‘incredible opportunity’. The Tramper handled the hills with ease and David describes it as such a ‘fun’ vehicle to ride, ‘responsive and powerful’. David said he feels stable and comfortable on the Trampers and finds them very easy to operate. He has a stroller and smaller, personal, mobility scooter – but these simply can’t handle the terrain.

David is also a keen photographer, and the Trampers give him the perfect opportunity to access viewpoints and comfortably take photographs. In fact, he took hundreds of photographs at the Himalayan Gardens! The scheme has also made a huge difference to David’s wife. They love to enjoy trips out together and giggle about the fact that David can now move faster than she can!

David feels the Trampers are ‘completely liberating’ and have inspired him to revisit places he has already been, with greater opportunity to explore. He has plans to re-visit Danby Lodge and also Sutton Bank, where he is fascinated to see the gliders, having learned to glide as an air cadet at school. He can’t wait to see the gliders soaring above and to remember the sensation of being the pilot.

David loves to promote the scheme and encourages anyone who is considering joining to ‘have a look, have a go and get rid of the stigma’. He is keen to highlight that the scheme is not only for the elderly – someone may look ‘fit and healthy’ but that doesn’t mean they don’t require mobility support.
