Times: 10:30am and 2:00pm

Distance: 2km

Gradient: Fexipave surface with gradual gradients

Walltown Country Park is an old quarry site that has been fully restored and managed for nature. There are wooded areas, lakes and ponds as well as open areas with wonderful views in all directions, set against the dramatic backdrop of Walltown Crags on Hadrian’s Wall.

There are two Tramper loop-routes:

1. Horsetail pond and big meadow

This route follows a flexipave and tarmac-surfaced route that heads northward along the western edge of the country park, with outstanding views across the border mires toward Wark forest, before returning to the visitor centre alongside open ponds, meadow and woodland. The route can be taken in either direction.

2. Quarry lake

This route follows a flexipave and tarmac-surfaced route through woodland and open meadow, around the central quarry lake, before returning via the picnic site in the shadow of Rabbit Haugh Crags. The route is best taken in an anticlockwise route.

There is one Tramper available at Walltown Country Park and each session lasts for two and a half hours.

A member must be accompanied on the route by another person during the Tramper hire session.

NOTE: All users must always stay on the flexipave and tarmac-surfaced routes.

No bookings will be accepted less than 24 hours in advance of their visit

Please ensure you arrive promptly as staff may not be available later and you may not be able to take the Tramper out.
