Ground works at Grizedale!

We’d like to take a moment to appreciate the fantastic work of the volunteer team at one of our partner locations - Grizedale Forest (Forestry Commission), Hawkshead.

The team consists of around fifteen volunteers and has been in operation for around fifteen years! A team of five or six usually undertakes each new project.

The team tackles various jobs every other week on different projects, to help keep the trail and facilities looking their best for all visitors to enjoy. Projects have ranged from drainage to meadow restoration, sculpture re-siting, children’s activity trail erecting and more recently, a new bench which was installed along the Tramper route. The project took place over the course of a month, with three to four days of work involved.

The bench enjoys glorious views to Wood Moss Tarn and is a fantastic addition for Tramper users and their companions, offering the opportunity to pause and take in the glorious surroundings and wildlife. One of our members, Freya, was delighted to discover the new bench on a Tramper trip she took to Grizedale during the Christmas period last year. Freya and her mum, Lorrainne, enjoyed a seat with a view, whilst they stopped to enjoy their Christmas cake! Freya said she was pleasantly surprised that some of the trees have been cut back, offering improved views of the tarn.

If you and your loved ones have plans for a Grizedale trip in the pipeline, be sure to check out the bench! You can find out more about what is on offer and book the Tramper at Grizedale here Grizedale Tramper Hire | Outdoor Mobility.
